Conch-shaped Rock
The Conch-shaped Rock rests at the entrance of Jinshi Park and the Jade Belt Road on Wailingding Island. Resembling a colossal conch, it earned the name “Conch-shaped Rock.” There's a captivating legend associated with this rock. In ancient times, a young fisherman discovered an injured fairy conch in the sea and nursed her back to health. Despite his own hardships, the diligent and compassionate fisherman shared his meager catch generously with the impoverished villagers, living a solitary and unsupported life. Witnessing his selflessness, the fairy conch was deeply moved and admired him. Consequently, she transformed herself into a beautiful maiden, dedicating her days to assisting the fisherman with household chores, cooking, and tending to their daily needs. Together, they fished and assisted other fishermen, leading a simple yet content life.
One day, a ferocious gale roared over the Lingding Ocean, capsizing boat after boat. Despite the tempest, the fisherman bravely sailed into the tumultuous sea to rescue the stranded villagers. Although most of the villagers were saved, sadly, the fisherman never returned.
The grieving fairy conch remained by the sea, steadfast and unwilling to leave. With the passage of time, she gradually turned into a reef. Unchanging amidst the sea’s shifts and changes, she stood resolute, keeping her vigil until the end of time.
