Introduction to Wailingding Scenic Area
Wailingding Island distinguishes itself within the expansive Wan Shan Archipelago due to its distinctive character. Despite its modest size, the island captivates with its scenic beauty, showcasing elegant yet breathtaking mountains that gleam like a pearl in the South China Sea. Renowned for its crystal-clear waters and unique rock formations, the island exudes tranquility, far removed from urban hustle and bustle, embraced by ocean currents and blessed with a year-round mild climate akin to spring. This secluded paradise, a natural gift, is shared among the major cities of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Macau.
Located at the mouth of the Pearl River, Wailingding Island is one of the 38 islands under the jurisdiction of Dan’gan Town Government and serves as its administrative center. Covering an area of 4.32 square kilometers, it is situated 27 nautical miles west of Zhuhai city center. To the north, it is 29 nautical miles from Shekou in Shenzhen, 6 nautical miles from Cheung Chau in Hong Kong, and 11 nautical miles from Kowloon. To the east and south, it sits 30 nautical miles away from the South Pacific Ocean, serving as a crucial point of entry and exit for international routes between the Pearl River Delta region and the South Pacific. Historically, it has been a strategic location fiercely contested by military strategists. The famous line from the national hero Wen Tianxiang’s poem “Sailing on Lonely Ocean ” - “Since olden days there’s never been a man but dies, I’d leave a loyalist’s name in history.” - was born here.
The resort area comprises three main parts: the “Jade Belt Road” scenic area, the beach area, and the Lingding Peakarea. Represented by the “Eight Sceneries of Lingding” (Jade Belt Road, Wailingding Viewpoint, Azure Sea and Vibrant Sunset, Conch-shaped Rock, Pak Tai Morning Bell , Wan Shan Chessboard, Rock Scenic Park , Arch Bridge Over Water), it showcases the island’s natural beauty. The various wild seafood, led by the “Three Treasures of Lingding” (sea urchins, dog conch, and general’s hat), also deeply attract visitors from all directions.
Rich culture, ancient history, and diverse natural resources have created an unparalleled poetic dreamland in Wailingding Island, an ideal place for business, summer retreats, health rejuvenation, and vacations.
