Pak Tai Morning Bell
Pak Tai, also known as the Xuanwu Emperor, revered as the deity governing waters, sits on the slopes of Lingding Peak, surrounded by auspicious mist. Standing at a height of eight meters, this majestic figure has become a revered site for fishermen and tourists alike, who come to pay their respects, believing in its power to bestow blessings upon all. Adjacent to the statue stands a colossal bell whose resonant toll reverberates for miles, spreading blessings far and wide.
The local belief in Taoist Xuanwu dates back to the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Celebrating the birth of Pak Tai on Wailingding Island is a city-level intangible cultural heritage of Zhuhai. Every third day of the third lunar month, fishermen from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau, Fujian, Guangxi, and Hainan gather on Wailingding Island. The celebrations feature lion dances, diverse art performances, creating a vibrant and thrilling atmosphere. Amidst this lively and joyous ambiance, people share emotions and exchange information, reveling in the allure of traditional Chinese culture.
